Inductors

Inductors are passive electrical components that oppose sudden changes in current. They are also sometimes known as coils or chokes. Inductors slow down current surges or spikes by temporarily storing energy in an electro-magnetic field before releasing it back into the circuit. In switched-mode power devices, they’re also used as energy storage devices to produce a DC current.

The induced magnetic field created by inductors creates a property known as inductance, which quantifies how much energy any given inductor can store. When selecting these types of parts, consider circuit requirements, power circuit applications, self-resonant frequency, saturation content, and tolerance.
